This teapot is created by ceramicist Hidaka Shinji and features a small strainer built into the spout, making it well-suited for brewing loose-leaf tea. Inspired by ancient ceramics, Hidaka works with a range of techniques, including celadon-white porcelain, which develops a pale-blue tone after firing due to a glaze containing iron.
Rather than relying on the natural unpredictability of clay or fire, Hidaka creates each piece with clear concept in mind. He also selects materials with traceable origins in order to understand their properties and shortcomings himself.
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1972, Hidaka completed a master’s programme in Oil Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts, followed by studies at Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Technical College. He built a kiln in Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture and relocated to Okayama in 2016.
Not suitable for use in a microwave or dishwasher.
