This novel is set in Tokyo, in a quiet café tucked away on a narrow side street, where visitors discover unexpected relationships and experience heart-warming connections.
The story centres on a group of regulars at the café, including Yukimura Chinatsu, a mysterious woman who leaves behind napkins folded into the shape of a ballerina; Yumata Hiroyuki, a middle-aged man who has returned to the neighbourhood in search of the happy life he once gave up; and Shizuku, the teenage daughter of the café owner, who is coping with her sister’s death while falling in love for the first time.
The Torunka Café not only serves a delightful cup of coffee but also provides a space that nourishes both body and soul. Author Yagisawa Satoshi conveys with care the illuminating experience of being lost and finding one’s way again.
Yagisawa Satoshi was born in Chiba Prefecture, Japan in 1977. His debut novel, Days at the Morisaki Bookshop was published in 2009 and won the Chiyoda Literature Prize.
