This set comprising a 100% pure tin katakuchi, pitcher and sake cups is made in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture – an area renowned throughout Japan for its metal-casting industry using copper, brass, bronze and tin. Said to remove any bitterness from sake, tin is a particularly suitable for drinks with high acidity making them taste softer on the palate. This set was crafted using an advanced technique known as ‘sand-casting’ where molten metal is poured into an intricately designed sand-mould, and then hand-finished by expert craftspeople using a lathe and bladed tools.
