Wooden Necklace – Chidori-goushi

A wooden necklace decorated with chidori-gōshi latticework from Hida, Gifu Prefecture.

£39.00 per item

Chidori-gōshi, lit. ‘plover lattice’ is one of the techniques of long-standing master woodworking heritage of Hida. Using wooden sticks cut with expert precision the lattice grid is assembled in a similar fashion to how the warp and weft threads of fabrics are interlaced. This creates a grid where the vertical and horizontal crosspieces appear alternately on the front and back creating a latticework puzzle that cannot be taken apart by normal means. This wooden necklace features the decorative latticework of the chidori-gōshi.
