This sake flask and cup set was made in the yakishime style, a Japanese ceramic technique that dates from the 4th century CE. Yakishime is one of the earliest ceramic production techniques, during which unglazed clay forms are fired in a kiln at high temperatures, often above 1200 degrees Celsius. The firing process that produces this sake cup takes 7 days, during which the wood-fired kiln is constantly monitored and its temperature adjusted through the addition of firewood when needed. The slightest difference in the clay itself, the surrounding heat, and amount of ash in the kiln produce different patterns and markings on the surface of the ceramics, making every piece one of a kind.

Not microwave or dishwasher safe.
Dry thoroughly after handwashing.
