This pitcher is made of high quality aluminium, a metal known for its light weight and excellent heat conductivity, perfect for heating up and serving atsukan, hot sake. Drinking heated sake is popular during the colder seasons in Japan; atsukan refers to sake that is heated to about 50 degrees celsius. Filling the chirori with sake then immersing it in hot water is the best way to warm sake, allowing the texture, flavour and aroma of the drink to be fully appreciated.

The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
