A chasen (bamboo whisk) hand crafted in Takayama, Nara Prefecture.
This chasen (bamboo whisk) is handcrafted in Takayama, Nara Prefecture, where they have been produced since the middle of the Muromachi period (1336-1573).
The tip of one piece of bamboo is carefully split into 68-74 tines and woven with thread by hand to secure their position. The chasen is vital to preparing matcha, the thin tines whisk the powdered tea with water, aerating it and accentuating the aroma. This creates a foam layer and produces the ideal smooth and creamy texture.
Due to the nature of the material, small cracks in the handle may develop over time. The cracks are a natural occurrence and do not affect the performance of the whisk.
Only use with water and matcha.
Rinse after every use and dry in open air.
We recommend storing your chasen on a whisk stand in order to preserve its shape and condition.
