This bamboo rice whisk is crafted by hand in Kyoto and designed for washing rice before cooking. The process of washing rice is a common practice when preparing Japanese cuisine. It is said using cold water is best as hot water can start breaking down the starch causing the rice to fuse. The rice whisk is crafted to wash rice efficiently without the need to immerse hands in cold water, providing comfort during winter months and protecting the hands and avoiding aggravation of any ailments.
The rice whisk uses various parts of bamboo. The handle is created from the bamboo root, with natural nodes providing a textured grip, and the whisk is formulated from strips of flexible bamboo that gently wash the rice without damaging the grains. It is versatile in use and can additionally be used to whisk salad dressing and eggs.
Bamboo is a natural material with different grains and patterns, individual items will differ.
