A black glaze large bowl by Shimomura Atsushi, crafted in Kanagawa Prefecture.
This bowl features a distinctive black glaze developed by Shimomura Atsushi. With deep black and brown tones and a subtle sheen, the glaze frames and highlights the colours of the food it holds.
Born in 1985 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Shimomura Atsushi initially worked as a web designer before studying ceramics under Nakazato Taki of Karatsu Ryūta Kiln. He established his own practice in 2020, focusing on kohiki (a ceramic technique in which white slip is applied to the clay body and finished with a translucent glaze) and black glaze. Function and modernity are central to his work, resulting in warm, understated pieces designed for everyday use.
Do not use in oven and dishwasher.
As each piece is handmade, there might be individual differences.
