This mamezara (lit. ‘bean plate’), features a distinctive black glaze with deep black and brown tones and a subtle sheen, developed by Shimomura Atsushi. The compact size of mamezara makes them suitable for serving small desserts or condiments, and also for holding small accessories around the home.

Born in 1985 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Shimomura Atsushi initially worked as a web designer before studying ceramics under Nakazato Taki of Karatsu Ryūta Kiln. He established his own practice in 2020, focusing on kohiki (a ceramic technique in which white slip is applied to the clay body and covered with a translucent glaze) and black glaze techniques. Function and modernity are central to his work, resulting in warm, understated pieces designed for everyday use.

Do not use in oven and dishwasher.
