A philosophical children’s picture book that explores identity through questions posed by a robot built by the protagonist.
‘Can I Build Another Me?’ is a children’s picture book that follows Kenta, a boy who decides to build a robot to take on all the tasks he would rather avoid. As the robot strives to become more like Kenta, it begins to ask him a series of questions. Through this exchange, Kenta is prompted to reflect on the complex question of what makes him who he is.
Yoshitake Shinsuke is a children’s author and illustrator. Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1973, he studied plastic arts and mixed media at Tsukuba University. In addition to his picture books, he has produced sketch collections, cover art, and magazine illustrations. His work has received multiple accolades, including a Special Mention at the Bologna Ragazzi Award and selection as a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book.
