This DIY whittling kit enables the creation of a children’s spoon and fork. It is designed and produced by Urban Ole Ecopark in Nara Prefecture in collaboration with BSC Rainbow Works, a disability-inclusive workspace. The kit features cherry wood, known for its smooth texture and distinctive grain, ideal for cutlery.
The spoon and fork are sized for young children beginning to eat solid food, or for adults to use with coffee and small desserts. The kit includes locally sourced materials, finishing tools, and easy-to-follow instructions, offering a hands-on introduction to woodcraft. Inviting users to explore the satisfaction of learning a new skill, the kit encourages a lasting connection between the maker and their handcrafted object.
Do not soak the wooden cutlery in water for extended periods.
Hand wash only and store in a dry place.
Reapply beeswax periodically to maintain protection and finish.
A craft knife is not included; however, any standard penknife will be suitable for whittling.
Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Three grades of sandpaper
A pot of beeswax
Two pieces of cherry wood
Two pieces of polishing cloth
