A handcrafted Iga ware hot pot with a deep lid designed for vegetable-rich dishes.
Handcrafted on a potter’s wheel at Doraku Kiln in Iga, this earthenware hot pot has a deep, domed lid designed to accommodate a generous quantity of vegetables. When filled with ingredients, the vegetables are gently steamed by the broth rather than soaked and boiled, helping them retain their texture and flavour. The shallow body allows the contents to come to the boil quickly. The handles are shaped for a comfortable and secure grip.
Iga ware dates back to the Nara period (710–794). Its clay is rich in natural plasticity and known for its durability and resistance to heat, making it well suited for earthenware cooking pots.
