Glazed Earthenware Chirirenge Serving Spoon & Spoon Stand
ちりれんげ
£40.00per item
A chirirenge with stand for serving nabe, hand crafted in Mie Prefecture.
This serving chirirenge (ceramic spoon) comes with a matching stand, and is handcrafted in Iga, Mie Prefecture. Doraku-gama, a family-run pottery studio, specializes in donabe (clay pots) and utensils for the warming dish nabe (hotpot). The patterns on the spoon are inspired by the biwa (a Japanese short-necked plucked lute) and each is carefully handdrawn.
Iga ware dates back to the Nara period (710–794). Its clay is rich in natural plasticity and known for its durability and resistance to heat, making it well suited for earthenware cooking pots.
