Flower-shaped chopsticks designed by nendo in collaboration with Hashikura Matsukan, produced in Fukui Prefecture.
These flower-shaped chopsticks are the result of a collaboration between the design studio nendo and Hashikura Matsukan, a lacquered chopstick manufacturer that has been producing chopsticks in Fukui Prefecture since 1922. The design focuses on comfort by introducing pleated ridges to improve the grip of the chopsticks. The ridges are skillfully carved by local woodworkers, so the cross-section forms a flower at the base of the chopsticks, and are left uncoated to show the raw materiality of the wood.
As the title suggests, when many sets are placed together in a cutlery stand, a hanataba (bouquet) appears.
Available in red and brown.
The body of the chopstick is not coated so it is advisable to hand wash, dry thoroughly and keep in a dry place.
Size: 23cm long
Material: Maple wood
Chūbu
The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
