Inspired by the concept of mingei, the folk craft movement, the Hand Printed Cotton Tote in Shima Green is handprinted in Kyoto Prefecture.
The textile for this cotton tote bag is coloured through screen printing in Kyoto Prefecture. The area is historically renowned for creating printed fabric for kimonos, owing to its highly skilled craftspeople and an deep culture of print production. With the assistance of Hisayama Senkō, who has produced numerous textiles for world-renowned clothing brands, each print is carefully crafted by hand.
The designs for the fashion and lifestyle brand, the Society of the Local Arts are influenced by the concept of mingei, the folk craft movement. Inspired by the bleed of colours in the glaze on mingei pottery, the print attempts to capture this handcraft by playing with the printing process, such as slightly shifting the screen to avoid machine-like uniformity.
This bag is crafted from cotton drill fabric and is the ideal size for a picnic, going to the gym or on a short trip.
