Inspired by the gradients of blue glaze in pottery produced by Shussaigama, a kiln in Shimane Prefecture, this denim zip pouch is skilfully hand printed in Kyoto Prefecture.
The designs for the fashion and lifestyle brand Society of the Local Arts are influenced by the concept of mingei, the folk craft movement. Shussaigama is closely associated with mingei, as its establishment in 1947 was supported by one of the founders of the movement, Yanagi Sori, and was motivated by the ideals of William Morris.
Even though the process of patternmaking involves repetition, the hand printing technique used results in subtle variations, similar to the diverse uncontrolled bleeding effects in the glaze of pottery, flowing from the individual craftsperson involved. This pouch is crafted from cotton drill fabric sourced from Okayama Prefecture and has a leather drawstring for ease of opening.
Individual pieces vary in colour and size as each piece is handmade.
Colours may change from friction or moisture.
Hand wash only, do not tumble dry or use products with bleach.
When ironing, use a pressing cloth.
