This skilfully painted large bowl has a blue pattern from gosuzome (a dying technique using gosu, a distinctive blue pigment). The bowl’s depth of colour and shading is achieved through varied brushstroke thickness in gosu, bringing the dynamic quality to the arabesque pattern along its walls. A reddish-brown gosu highlights the rim and accents the dotted design around the foot.
