A bento box handcrafted in Wakayama Prefecture and made of Kishū cypress wood, covered with an innovative nano-coating.
This handcrafted wooden bento box is made in Wakayama Prefecture using Kishū lacquerware traditions established in the Edo period (1603-1868 CE).
The design of this bento box highlights the natural beauty and individuality of the grain of the Kishū hinoki wood, one of Japan’s esteemed three major cypresses, from which the box is made. Not only does Kishū hinoki possess exceptional durability, but its high oil content allows it to develop a captivating, subtle lustre that deepens with age. This species of cypress also boasts properties that are ideal for food storage. With its inherent antimicrobial qualities, this wooden bento box provides a safe and hygienic container for your meals. Additionally, the wood regulates the moisture content of rice, enhancing its flavour.
Further enhancing its longevity and practicality, this wooden bento box features a special glass-based nano-coating. This innovative coating not only adds resilience to the box’s surface but also renders it resistant to dirt and grime, making it easy to clean and suitable for use in dishwashers.

Tōhoku
Tōhoku consists of six prefectures located in the north-east of Honshu island. This region is known for its hot spring (onsen) resorts, colourful festivals, remote sacred mountains and harsh winters. In 2011, the devastating earthquake and tsunami hit the region hard; however, the massive efforts in reconstruction are proof of the people’s resilience. Urushi (lacquer) ware, ironware and the crafting of kokeshi dolls make up but a few of the local industries in this lesser-visited region of Japan.
