益子焼 まんぼう湯呑
A Mashiko ware yunomi (a tall, handleless cup for drinking tea) crafted in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture.
This yunomi (a tall, handleless cup for drinking tea) is crafted by Sayado Wadagama in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture. The design reflects the historic characteristics of Mashiko ware, including thickly applied glaze that enhances durability, and the use of three glaze types typically associated with the region. Its distinctive form echoes mambo trousers, a style popular in the mid-1950s characterized by narrow hems and a billowing silhouette. Known as mambo yunomi, this shape is a recognisable form within Mashiko ware.
