Mother of Pearl Keychain

A keychain made of mother of pearl from Japan's largest freshwater lake.

£48 per item

The mother of pearl used to create this hair bobble is taken from the inside of the shell of a species of freshwater mussel native to Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. The mother of pearl produced by these mussels comes in many different hues from gold, pink and orange, to purple and white. Each is different in both colour and shine, making every piece one of a kind. It takes between 3 and 6 years for the mother of pearl to develop on the shells, however the shells are only harvested once the mussels have reached the end of their lifespan.

Wipe with a dry or damp soft cloth to clean.
