Nabeshima Celadon Porcelain Small Plate

The glaze, made from 100% natural stone, gives this small plate the translucent jade-green colour characteristic of Nabeshima celadon. The smooth glaze contrasts with the textured unglazed white porcelain foot. This combination makes it suitable for serving butter and other slippery foods, while enhancing the natural colours of food. The plate can be paired with the Nabeshima Celadon Porcelain Sencha Tea Cup.

Established during the Edo period, the Nabeshima kiln was an official kiln producing presentation wares for the Imperial Court and other prestigious recipients. Unlike private kilns, which operated commercially, it focused solely on achieving the highest standards of craftsmanship. Although the kiln closed in 1871, its techniques were inherited by later generations of craftspeople and continue today.
