This decoration was crafted by designer Nagaura Chie, who founded the brand Tier in 2013.

Straw decorations and shimenawa (ropes made from rice straw or hemp, used for purification) come in a wide variety of shapes and have been used in Japan for centuries. Hanging a straw decoration is believed to cleanse and purify a space in preparation for the new year.

This wall hanging incorporates elements of mizuhiki, a decorative form of knot-tying that is used on occiasions of celebration, particularly in decorating envelopes. While suitable as a New Year decoration, it is also fitting for other celebratory occasions.

Keep dry.

Due to the use of natural materials, the colour will gradually change over time.
