This book is part of a six-book series that follows 20 years of work by esteemed textile design firm, NUNO. Each book takes for its title a Japanese onomatopoeic word that evokes a particular quality of textiles. A central text explains the essence of the onomatopoeia and its connection to textiles, with an accompanying essay by a specialist from outside the textile industry exploring abstract connections and broader concepts. Additionally, the book explores the inspiration, technologies and processes that contribute towards textile production.

Sudō Reiko is the Design Director of NUNO and is one of Japan’s most influential contemporary textile designers. She has worked for Mujirushi Ryōhin (MUJI) in fabric planning and development and as part of the Advisory Board since 2016. Also a member of the Japan Design Committee, she has received accolades of the Mainichi Design Award, the ROSCOE Design Prize, and the Japan Interior Design Association JID Award.
