An artist’s book featuring 55 selected works by Ono Teppei from 50 years of his ceramic practice.
This book presents 55 carefully selected works by Ono Teppei, spanning 50 years of his ceramic practice. It includes vessels made at the age of 25, whose sharp edges reflect the intensity of his expression at that time.
Tracing the development of his work, the book features more sculptural pieces, which are less commonly seen than his functional ceramics. It also reveals Ono’s ongoing questioning of how to exist within society, a theme that continues to inform his practice.
Born in Ehime Prefecture, Ono Teppei is a ceramist based in Kami City, Kochi Prefecture. In 1984, he began travelling extensively across Asia, later studying ceramics in Thailand and Malaysia.
He now lives and works in the countryside of Kochi Prefecture, drawing inspiration from the surrounding rice terraces and mountain landscapes. Using only natural materials for clay and glaze, Ono’s work conveys emotion through its warmth and presence of nature.
