A wooden lacquered tumbler lathed by Japan Crafts Oshima in collaboration with Sōen, a platform dedicated to promoting Japanese craftsmanship.
This wooden lacquered tumbler is skilfully crafted on a lathe by Japan Crafts Oshima in Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture, an area with a history of producing wooden lathed products that dates back 400 years. The wooden lacquered tumbler is produced in collaboration with Sōen, a platform that highlights Japanese craftsmanship by developing a single design with various manufacturers and makers, who execute the design using their specialist material.
This wooden lacquered tumbler is produced from Japanese zelkova wood, celebrated for its distinctive grain that creates an individual pattern for each tumbler. Its dark tone and durable nature make it well-suited for everyday use. The size is not only ideal for drinking whisky or shōchū on the rocks but also for warm drinks as the material prevents heat from transferring to the hand. The intriguing, rounded form allows for stacking with other Sōen tumblers in different materials with the same shape.
Hand wash with neutral detergent.
Use a soft sponge from scratching the surface.
Not suitable for microwave and dishwasher.

Tōhoku
Tōhoku consists of six prefectures located in the north-east of Honshu island. This region is known for its hot spring (onsen) resorts, colourful festivals, remote sacred mountains and harsh winters. In 2011, the devastating earthquake and tsunami hit the region hard; however, the massive efforts in reconstruction are proof of the people’s resilience. Urushi (lacquer) ware, ironware and the crafting of kokeshi dolls make up but a few of the local industries in this lesser-visited region of Japan.
