Crafted in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, this incense holder is a product of skilled metal craftspeople who specialize in hand-hammering techniques to create orin (Buddhist bells). Crafted from a single sheet of tin, the metalworkers demonstrate the exceptional malleability of tin by forming a thin sheet that can be repeatedly bent, folded, and flattened without breaking. Each piece is stretched by rolling and is hammered rhythmically to produce surface patterns that also enhance durability. The incense holder can be moulded to form a desired shape.

Tin will change colour over time, it can be polished with commercially available metal polish, toothpaste, or baking soda to regain its original shine.
Although resilient and flexible, excessive bending in one place will cause fatigue and cracks.
