This book introduces and explains the Garden House built on the Vitra Campus by architect Tane Tsuyoshi in 2023. The building is situated close to the Oudolf Garten, and is used as a rooftop viewing platform for Campus visitors as well as a meeting place for the gardeners.
The Tane Garden House reflects the architect’s distinctive design approach which starts with an intensive research process exploring the regional context of each project. Working in an archeological style, Tane spends a long period understanding the ‘memory of the place’ embedded in the land and its history. This approach has formed the basis of Tane’s core architectural concept, ‘Archeology of the Future’, which centres on the idea that architecture should start with the memory of the place in which a new structure stands.
The book documents the extensive design process which spanned several years and features a number of unrealised models, and sketches by Tane.
