This elegantly balanced tin vase is expertly crafted in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture – an area renowned for its metal-casting heritage, producing high-quality items from copper, tin, bronze, and brass. The tin vase undergoes a process of ‘sand casting’ in which molten metal is poured into a sand mould and is subsequently hand-finished, which means no two vases are completely identical. Tin does not rust and its anti-bacterial qualities help slow decay and preserve the longevity of flowers in the vase.
The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
