Behind-the-scenes materials, including rough sketches, musical notes for long-time collaborator Hisaishi Joe, and personal reflections on forests, give insight into the mind of this prolific animator.
Miyazaki Hayao is an award-winning animation director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli. His notable works include My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. His films explore themes of environmentalism, the relationship between humanity and technology, and the significance of friendship and family, with protagonists typically portrayed as girls or women.
In 2014, Miyazaki received the Honorary Award for lifetime achievement from the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. His most recent film, The Boy and the Heron, 2023 was awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
