Matsumoto Seichō was an author of Japanese crime fiction and is credited with popularising detective fiction in Japan. Born in 1909 in Fukuoka, he was self-educated and published his first book at the age of 40. He received prestigious literary awards, including the Akutagawa Prize in 1952 and the Kikuchi Kan Prize in 1970. His work often incorporates elements of human psychology and everyday life, reflecting a broader social context and post-war nihilism.
