The magazine includes essays highlighting Yanagi’s influence on the design industry in Japan including a piece from renowned product designer, Fukasawa Naoto, another touching upon the influential professional relationship that he had with Charlotte Perriand, and a story from a professor who recollects studying under him at Kanazawa College of Art.
Bekkan Taiyō was born ten years after the monthly literary and general interest magazine, Taiyō, was first published in 1963. Bekkan Taiyō was founded in response to requests from readers asking for a more extensive investigatory publication, leading to the magazine focusing on one theme in each issue, making it a record of its time.
