This wooden snake is created by combining many parts crafted using techniques historically used to make kokeshi (wooden dolls that originate from the Tōhoku region of north-eastern Japan). It is painted by hand in red pigment by a skilled craftsperson, using simple yet vibrant strokes.
This snake is a talisman created in celebration of 2025, the Year of the Snake. White snakes are said to be messengers to Benzaiten (a deity of music, wisdom, and treasure) and are associated with rainfall that leads to bountiful harvests. Their ability to shed their skin symbolizes renewal and they are considered an auspicious symbol, with particular associations with financial success.
As the figurine is made with wood, avoid contact with water.
Do not expose painted areas to friction.
Avoid placing in areas where there is direct sunlight or near air conditioning, as extreme changes in temperature can lead to damage.
Individual items will differ from one another slightly, due to their handmade nature.
