This striped scarf is made of Aizu momen, a plain-weave cotton fabric, the production of which is a 400-year old craft from the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture. Once widely popular, the production of Aizu momen had been gradually declining from its heyday in the Taishō period (1912-1926 CE) until it completely disappeared about 30 years ago. In 2016, the lost craft was successfully revived with three weaving workshops carrying on the tradition. Clothes made of Aizu momen were originally used by people living in the area to withstand the cold winters and very hot summers of the Aizu region. Aizu momen is therefore known for its excellent heat retention and moisture absorption qualities as well as its durability and soft texture.

Exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods may cause colour to fade.
Wash cold to avoid shrinking.
Texture may change over time.
