The mother of pearl used to create this hair bobble is taken from the inside of the shell of a species of freshwater mussel native to Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. The mother of pearl produced by these mussels comes in many different hues from gold, pink and orange, to purple and white. Each is different in both colour and shine, making every piece unique. It takes between 3 and 6 years for the mother of pearl to develop on the shells, however the shells are only harvested once the mussels have reached the end of their lifespan.

Avoid contact with hair products and perfume.
