This brass flower vase was made in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture – an area renowned throughout Japan for its metal-casting industry using copper, brass, bronze and tin. Based on techniques used to craft Buddhist ritual objects as well as utensils for practicing chadō (the Way of Tea), this vase has been crafted by expert craftspeople using advanced casting techniques and metalworking traditions cultivated for over 400 years.

The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
