A small teacup handcrafted by Karugane Akari in Tajima City Gifu Prefecture.
This small teacup is created by Karugane Akane in Tajima City, Gifu Prefecture. Its rounded form fits comfortably in the hand and holds approximately 150ml. Inspired by Panari-yaki (a rustic earthenware from the Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa) produced between the 17th and 19th centuries, the piece has a blue hue layered with the natural tones of clay.
Born in 1995, Karugane graduated from the Department of Craft and Industrial Design at Musashino Art University in 2019 and later studied at the Tajimi City Ceramic Design Institute in 2022. Her work is characterized by functional vessels with multi-coloured surfaces and curved silhouettes. The distinctive texture is created by dabbing and layering colours with a sponge, bringing depth and warmth to each piece.

Chūbu
The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
