This hinoki (Japanese cypress) bathroom stool is crafted in a wood workshop in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, located between the leading timber production regions of Tōnō in Gifu Prefecture and Yoshino in Nara Prefecture. The bathroom stool is a staple piece of furniture, familiar to anyone who has visited an onsen (hot spring). Before bathing in the onsen, people sit on bathroom stools to wash their faces, hair and body.
The aromatic hinoki used for the stool is sourced from Tōnō and is known for its uniform quality. The tree’s equally spaced growth rings lead to an even grain and minimal knots, adding to its natural water resistance and durability, characteristics well suited for a bathroom stall. The surface is planed rather than sanded to preserve the grain of the wood, creating a water-repellent finish that is highly resistant to decay and which has a distinct lustre.

Always place the stall on a level surface.
Do not leave to soak in water.
Do not use as a step stool.
Wipe with a dry cloth after use and leave in a well-ventilated area to dry.
Do not leave in direct sunlight or extremely dry conditions as this may lead to cracking or deforming of the wood.
