This playful edamame chopstick rest is produced by Sumitani Saburō Shōten, a manufacturer of metal crafts established in 1939 in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture.
Designed to elevate the tips of the chopsticks off the tabletop for hygiene, chopstick rests provide a designated resting place for chopsticks at the start and end of a meal.
Takaoka City is celebrated for its metal casting industry, rooted in bronze craftsmanship that began over 400 years ago. This historical skill and knowledge are demonstrated in the detailed form of the tin edamame.
After use, wash with a soft cloth or sponge and neutral detergent.
If the lustre becomes dull, polish with over-the-counter metal polish, toothpaste or baking soda to restore the luster.

The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
