How to Wrap Five Eggs

This book presents a collection of intricately wrapped items found in Japan, exploring the ingenuity of Japanese packaging before mass production. It includes 221 black-and-white photographs capturing a range of boxes, baskets, wrappers and containers crafted from materials such as bamboo, rice straw, hemp twine, paper and leaves. A commentary section at the end provides further context for each image. First published in 1967, the book was compiled by Oka Hideyuki, a Japanese art director who gathered these examples from across Japan.

Oka Hideyuki was a Japanese art director and avid collector of packaging from across Japan. He was active in the advertising industry as an early member of the Tokyo Association of Commercial Artists and the first chairman of the National Federation of Commercial Artists.
