An unglazed, polished porcelain bowl for everyday use made to express the special qualities of Mino-yaki porcelain.
Kihon no Utsuwa (基本の器) translates to ‘basic utensils or vessels’, reflecting this brand’s commitment to simple tableware that fits any occasion from everyday use to a special dinner.
Produced in Tajimi City in the southeastern Tōno region of Gifu Prefecture, Kihon no Utsuwa is a brand that actively engages in sustainable manufacturing to avoid further depleting local resources.
As a contrast to their regular tableware which incorporates recycled materials, this bowl is made with fresh materials solely from the Mino region of Japan, an area renowned for its high-quality clay that has allowed the local pottery industry to flourish for over 1000 years. Using established and blending techniques and firing processes, Kihon no Utsuwa aims to create tableware for everyday use which also expresses the special qualities of Japanese ceramics from the Mino region. For this reason the bowl is unglazed and polished allowing its user to fully experience the quality of the clay from which it was made.
