This publication marks the fiftieth anniversary of New Japanese Photography, the exhibition held at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1974. Curated by John Szarkowski and Yamagishi Shōji, it was the first major international presentation of Japanese photographers and had a lasting, international impact.
Featuring texts by fifteen curators, critics and scholars, including Sandra S. Phillips and Hayami Ihiro, the volume draws on exhibitions and symposia presented as part of T3 Photo Festival Tokyo 2024, offering range of critical perspectives.
