Made with clay sourced from the countryside of Nara Prefecture, these cups are made by Japanese potter Ogata Atsushi. The surface of these cups features a decorative ceramic technique called hakeme, whereby the potter applies a white slip onto the clay body of the pieces using a simple, swift brush strokes, creating an appearance of a washed, uncontrived surface that looks almost like it is unfinished. Rustic pieces like this cup are one of Ogata’s specialities, highly recognizable by their striking appearance.
