A round wall clock designed by Watanabe Riki, featuring an hour hand with a ring-shaped indicator that resembles a spectacle frame, balancing decorative and functional qualities.
This round wall clock was designed by Watanabe Riki in collaboration with specialist timepiece makers Lemnos. Created in 1981 during the postmodern era, when semiotic theories were being reassessed, the clock reflects the designer’s reinterpretation of antiques.
The hour hand features a ring-shaped indicator resembling a spectacle frame, balancing decorative and functional qualities. Watanabe was one of Japan’s pioneering designers, known for his work on clocks and watches, and for opening Japan’s first design office in 1949. The Riki Ring Clock’s distinctive design was recognised with a Good Design Award in 2021.

The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
