A bento box handwoven from shinotake bamboo by Matsunoya in Tokyo.
This bento box is crafted from natural shinotake bamboo, a slender and flexible variety grown in the mountainous region of Iwate Prefecture. The bamboo is carefully hand-woven to ensure the lid and body close securely without fasteners.
Naturally resilient, shinotake retains its shape while remaining lightweight, making it well-suited for crafting soba strainers and storage baskets. The fine gaps in the bamboo fibres provide natural ventilation, helping to prevent warm food from becoming soggy. Over time, the material develops a warm amber patina.
The box can also serve as a container for small items or for organizing craft supplies. It is produced by Matsunoya, a supplier of household goods established in 1945, known for its focus on natural materials.
Not suitable for dishwasher and microwave.
Ensure it is fully dry before storing.
