Snow Country

Written by Nobel Prize holder Kawabata Yasunari, Snow Country is a classic of 20th-century Japanese literature. The story is a contemplation on love and its limits, told through the hopeless affair of a wealthy dilettante from Tokyo who is absorbed in his longing for an unobtainable, idealistic beauty and a rural geisha who is bound by rules of servitude and seclusion.

Kawabata Yasunari (1899-1972) was a novelist and short story writer born in Osaka. He established himself as one of Japan’s leading novelists during his life and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968.
