A blown-glass sake cup with a light blue colour, produced by Arinaga Kōta in Ishikawa prefecture.
Thin and smooth on the lips, this cup pairs well with sake or desserts. It is created by Arinaga Kōta using a glass-blowing technique that generates volume through inflation, ideal for producing hollow vessels. Arinaga captures the form at an optimal moment in the process, observing the glass as it expands and builds internal tension.
Born in Osaka in 1978, Arinaga completed the Glass Course at Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts, where he was mentored by Kotani Shinzo – a leading figure of Kurashiki Glass, known for its emphasis on functional beauty. After graduating, he worked at various glass studios across Japan before establishing his own studio, Kota Glass, on Notoijma Island in 2017.
