A tulip-shaped incense holder, carefully crafted in tin.
Crafted in Toyama Prefecture, an area known throughout Japan for its metal-casting industry, this tulip-shaped incense holder is made from pure tin. Due to its malleable nature, tin can be bent without breaking, but unlike copper alloys, its softness demands great care from those who handle it. As tin cannot be shaped by machine, the intricate detailing depends entirely on the skill of the craftsperson, using techniques passed down through generations.
The incense holder includes three sticks of incense with a tulip fragrance, the official flower of Toyama Prefecture.

Chūbu
The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
