Tokachi Millennium Forest

Dan Pearson was invited to create a garden at the 240-hectare Tokachi Millennium Forest in Hokkaido, with the aim of reconnecting people with nature and restoring land affected by intensive agriculture. He developed a landscape rooted in a Japanese respect for nature and informed by contemporary ecological planting. The Meadow Garden blends cultivated and native species, while the Earth Garden shapes the land in dialogue with the surrounding mountains. Under the care of Shintani Midori, the garden has evolved in line with seasonal awareness and ecological balance. This book offers insight into its design and underlying philosophy.
