This handcrafted wooden bowl is made in Wakayama Prefecture using Kishū lacquerware traditions established in the Edo period (1603-1868 CE).
The design of this bowl is meant to highlight the natural beauty and individuality of the wood grain. Carefully selected Kishū hinoki, one of Japan’s esteemed three major cypresses, is used to create this craft piece. Not only does Kishū hinoki possess exceptional durability, but its high oil content allows it to develop a captivating, subtle lustre that deepens with age. This species of cypress also boasts inherent antimicrobial qualities, providing a safe and hygienic vessel for your meals. Additionally, the wood regulates the moisture content of rice, enhancing its flavour.
Further enhancing its longevity and practicality, this wooden bowl features a special glass-based nano-coating. This innovative coating not only adds resilience to the bowl’s surface but also renders it resistant to dirt and grime, making it easy to keep clean.
